We have both been working in the medical field in Australia for many years.

Jo has been a medical receptionist, secretary and practice manager with extensive experience in billing for over 40 years, whilst Leeton has been a general medical practitioner (GP), GP obstetrician and surgical assistant for a similar period.

We have a company called Surgical Assist Pty Ltd which provides billing services for surgical assistants.

Leeton has also published a book titled “A Guide to Surgical Assisting”, which is available in both paperback and electronic formats.

Our billing service “Surgical Assist Pty Ltd” has been established for several years.

We have numerous surgical assistants who utilise this service to experience hassle free billing of their patients.

We liaise with the patients, their surgeon, Medicare and the various private health funds as well as the Transport Accident Commission and Workcover authorities. Gap payments, when included, are dealt with and prior informed financial consent is obtained from the patient.

This means that the surgical assistant doesn’t have to waste valuable time chasing up their billings and outstanding debts.

Patients are welcome to contact us to discuss their payments during an often complicated, traumatic and stressful time for them.

A percentage fee is charged for this service. This varies depending on whether gap payments are charged.

Leeton has published a Guide to Surgical Assisting. This booklet (in paperback and electronic formats) is available on various book sites including Amazon, Booktopia and others. It can also be purchased in paperback format directly from us.

It should prove useful to medical students, HMOs, registrars, nurses, doctors who may be occasionally called upon to assist in theatre and those that may intend to make surgical assisting a large part of their career.

It is not a textbook of surgical technique, as there are plenty of these already available. It discusses that which is necessary to become a useful surgical assistant, especially when starting off in this fulfilling and, maybe initially somewhat daunting, career of surgical assisting.
